04 · What to do
What do I do about fire ants?
- 01Keep kids and pets away from mounds.
- 02Do not kick, flood, or pour gasoline on mounds. That moves the colony.
- 03Wash stings with soap and water and do not pop the pustules.
- 04Seek emergency care for swelling of the face or trouble breathing.
- Mounds keep coming back after store treatments.
- Mounds are near play areas, AC units, or the foundation.
- Someone in the home is allergic.
“Flooding or kicking a fire ant mound just moves the queen ten feet over. A real program treats the whole yard with a bait the workers carry back to her, then hits the mounds that matter most. On acreage in Medina County, we plan around where people and animals actually walk.”

What people ask us.
How long does fire ant bait take?+
Most baits take a few days to a few weeks to reach the queen and collapse the colony.
Will they come back?+
New colonies fly in from neighboring properties, especially after rain. Ongoing treatment keeps pressure low.
Are fire ants dangerous to pets?+
Stings hurt pets too, especially puppies and older animals. Call your vet if your pet reacts strongly.
